Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
